34. Nirmal Chettri (Football)


Nirmal Chettri is an Indian footballer from Melli (Sikkim), who played as both a centre-back and a full-back. Chettri represented the Indian national team in 15 matches. He was in a blue national jersey when India won SAFF Championship (2011) and Nehru Cup (2012).

In his 16 long playing years, he played for the top I-League and ISL clubs of the country including the famed Kolkata trio of East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan SC.

Kazi is also credited as the first badminton player to represent Sikkim in a national-level tournament. He was the man behind the Sikkim Chief Minister’s Challenger Cup (1985), the first badminton tournament in Sikkim. Presently he is the advisor of the Badminton Association of Sikkim.
